White DSi

When it is released, the Nintendo DSi console will only be available in two colors; Black DSi or Blue DSi. The white DSi will not be available in the USA. Click here to view the two colors side by side (and order one before it sells out)

Nintendo DSi White Console Music

As well as using the Nintendo DSi to listen to music, you can use it to record your voice with the microphone that has always been part of the DS system. The recorder lets you store a 10 second clip which you can then play back with a variety of different and entertaining effect. You can change the pitch of the recording as it plays or add a filter to make your voice sound like a parrot. One of the most interesting filters is the harmony filter which makes it sound like there are many voices instead of just one. There are also some slight hidden filters which are the robot and helium voice.

You can also fiddle with options when you’re listening to music files. There are a lot of fun things you can do with your tracks. You can add drum beats and of course, being Nintendo some sound effects make references to Mario games. You can also adjust the pitch and speed of your ACC files. And as with sound recordings, you can add filters to the music files. These include a karaoke mode which attempts to hide vocals from tracks, echo mode and radio mode which makes the sound quality dip to the level of an old AM radio. All these are entertaining for about 7 seconds, but there is one filter I’d like to try out on more tracks (once I’ve converted them from mp3s); that is the 8-bit gaming filter, to make your music sound like it was produced for a NES or Master System. While music is playing, you can simultaneously play your recordings.

Whereas the DS Lite had the headphone port, volume control and Game Boy Advance slot on the bottom, the Nintendo DSi console features only the headphone port, giving it a much neater appearance.

The one downside to the White DSi console is that the to make room for all the new features, the second slot which was used for Game Boy Advance carts had to be removed. This means a DSi white is not backward compatible with the GBA (nor Guitar Hero: On Tour grip which used the slot).

This would allow people to download applications to use on their white DSi. This could add great value to the console. Example of homebrew applications include word processors and multimedia players.

The black and white DSi are not compatible with Game Boy Advanced games unlike the DS and DS Lite. This is because they have had to make room for the cameras, SD card, larger screen and the Nintendo DSi console being 12% smaller.

The DSi console has a larger screen than the DS Lite. The DSi white can be used as a portable music player too. Because of this the quality of sound output has been increased also. The downside is that Nintendo are not allowing MP3s to be played on the console.

A black DSi and a white DSi are expected to be available from launch.

I release of course that the previous statement was not correct. I should have said the Nintendo Nintendo DSi console will only be available in two shades as we know black and white are not colors. Although I have to say I can't quite understand that. For example, grey is a mixture of black and white. Does that mean it is not a color either but a mixture of light and dark? Where is the line draw between what is a color and what is a shade? Silver is very close to grey so is that not a color either? Are the only real colors the primary colors? And which colors of Nintendo DSi console will there be? Maybe there should be a golden DSi (there was a golden PSP in an episode of Southpark I remember).

Nintendo White DSi

You're probably aware that the Nintendo white DSi has is identical to the black DSi other than the color of it. There are however many differences between the white DSi and the white DS Lite. The most obvious improvement in the white DSi is that it includes two cameras. These cameras can be used for taking photos and videos as well as enabling new ways to interact with games. The cameras are not high specification but are intended to be fun cameras. The new console is also 12% slimmer than the DS Lite. The downside of this is that the slot to play Gameboy Advance games has been taken out of the white DSi and black DSi. I new slot has taken it's place. This allows the console to read SD cards which can be used to store photos taken with the cameras and even music. Since the Nintendo DSi console can now be used as a portable music player, the quality of sound it produces has also been improved.

Order before they sell out.
