Are you ready for the Nintendo Blue DSi?

Nintendo has been a leading name in video games for a long time. The systems have been in homes since the early 1980s, and characters from their games, such as the Mario Brothers and Yoshi, have become household names. From its first console in 1983 to the upcoming Nintendo DSi console, Nintendo has repeatedly set the high standard for video games.

The blue DSi along with the other colors of the console is the latest development in hand held game consoles by Nintendo. This console is the third version of the Nintendo DS. The most recent version was the Nintendo DS Lite. The development of the Nintendo DSi began in 2006, around the same time the Nintendo Wii, the most recent home console by Nintendo, began to ship.

In an early concept for the Nintendo DSi consoles, two slots were provided for DS games. However, the extra slot made the hand held console slightly thicker, and the second slot was eliminated from the final design. The Game Boy Advance cartridge slot was also eliminated in the design of the blue DSi, so the console is not compatible with Game Boy Advance games, or the additions to the Nintendo DS that required that slot, such as the Nintendo DS RumblePak.

One of the changes made between the previous version of the Nintendo DS and this version, the Nintendo DSi console, is the cameras found in the hand held console. There is also an SD card slot hidden on the right side of the console that can be used to store pictures taken with the cameras. The SD card can also be used to store downloaded software, or to play AAC audio.

With the release of the DSi, Nintendo is also releasing the DSi Shop, which is similar to the Wii Shop Channel for the Nintendo Wii. People can use Nintendo Points, previously known as Wii Points, to download DSiWare games and applications. The applications downloadable from the DSi Shop will cost 200, 500, or 800 points. Applications requiring 800 points are marked as "Premium." As an incentive, any Nintendo DSi that accesses the DSi Shop before March 2010 will receive 1,000 Nintendo Points.

The Nintendo DSi console was first released in Japan on November 1, 2008. In the first two days of sale, more than 150,000 units were sold. In the first month, more than 500,000 units were sold. Since the launch, more than one million units of the Nintendo DSi have been sold in Japan.

The matte blue DSi is scheduled to be released in the United States in early April 2009. It is available in matte black or matte white in Australia and Europe. In the United States, it is available in matte black or matte blue.
